OEM data

OEM data: fleet tracking without hardware in preparation

No technician, no downtime, no box behind the dashboard. For many makes, we read the data straight from the car itself, as soon as this integration goes live.

Tracking without hardware

Who it's for
Fleets with newer cars and vans, lease cars you'd rather not drill into, and electric vehicles.
What it solves
No technician, no downtime, no box behind the dashboard. This integration is in preparation. Once it is live, for many makes we can read the data straight from the car itself: position, odometer and, for electric vehicles, charge level and range. This works for cars with a factory-fitted connection, usually from a model year between 2016 and 2021, depending on make and model. If you need temperature, a camera, driver identification or tacho, you still need a tracker. Many cars only send data at the start and end of a trip, not along the way.

What you get, and what you don't

OEM data is not the same as your own tracker. An honest comparison:

  • Yes: position and trip logging, on the same map as the rest of your fleet
  • Yes: the odometer reading straight from the vehicle
  • Yes: for electric vehicles, charge level and range
  • Yes: no installation costs, no downtime and no technician appointment, including for lease cars
  • No: your own sensors such as temperature, a camera, driver identification or remote tacho
  • Note: many vehicles only report with the engine running or the ignition on, and the data available varies by make and model

A mixed fleet is the norm: OEM data where it is already available, a tracker where you need more. Both come together on one map and in one report.

How to go about it

  1. Free fleet adviceSend us your number plates. For each vehicle, we work out which OEM data is available and where a tracker gives you more.
  2. Arrange consentThe vehicle owner, either you or your leasing company, consents to sharing the data. How that works varies by make.
  3. ConnectAs soon as the integration is live, we set up the connection. Activation can take a few days.
  4. Add hardware where neededVehicles that need sensors, a camera or remote tacho still get a tracker.

Frequently asked questions

Does OEM data also work for older vehicles?

Usually not. OEM data is mainly available on recent models, roughly from a model year between 2016 and 2021 depending on the make. For older vehicles, a tracker remains the way to go; in a mixed fleet you see both in the same report.

What data do I get without a tracker?

Position, odometer and, for electric vehicles, charge level and range. Temperature, a camera, driver identification or tacho do require a tracker.

How often is the data updated?

That is up to the manufacturer. Many cars only send data at the start and end of a trip, not along the way.

Is this suitable for trucks too?

For trucks, we recommend a dedicated tracker in practice: you'll want remote tacho, sensors and often a camera there anyway.

Is OEM data already available, and what does it cost?

The integration is in preparation. Factory data is part of Enterprise; the price is available on request. We check each number plate in advance, free of charge, to see whether the manufacturer provides the data.
