Road safety

AI dashcam for company vehicles: evidence when things go wrong

Road safety through video telematics. When an incident occurs, the camera saves a clip showing time, location and speed, and a cab camera can flag fatigue and distraction.

What the dashcam does for your fleet

Who it's for
Fleets that spend a lot of time on the road: vans, trucks and vehicles working at the roadside.
What it solves
Without footage, damage comes down to your word against theirs. When an incident occurs, the camera saves a clip showing time, location and speed. You can add a cab camera: it flags fatigue, distraction and phone use at the wheel as an event.
Privacy is on by default
No facial recognition, audio off, clips only when an event occurs. Footage is first stored on the SD card in the vehicle; we only retrieve what is needed. The platform keeps it for 30 days by default; longer retention is available as an option.
In practice. Real customer footage: a truck reverses into our customer's stationary vehicle. Time, location and speed are on screen; the claim was never in dispute.

Road camera and cab camera

A camera that films the road is not the same as a camera that films the cab. The road camera is part of the Video plan, with tracking included. Only add a cab camera if you have a good reason to.

  • For every event, a clip with time, location and speed on screen: evidence for a damage claim.
  • You can also watch live and play back footage. Only use live view for a specific situation, such as an ongoing incident or a missing vehicle, and use role permissions to decide who may use it.
  • The cab camera registers phone use, fatigue and distraction as an event, not as a person: the system doesn't know who is at the wheel, only what is happening.
  • Driver assistance (ADAS) and the cab camera are a paid add-on.
  • Footage from our cameras is hosted in the EU.

Dashcams and the GDPR: four things to arrange

A dashcam in your company vehicle is allowed, provided you set it up properly. Constantly watching your staff is never the goal.

  1. Define your purposeHandling damage claims and road safety are the classic examples. Use the footage for that purpose only.
  2. Inform your drivers in advanceIn writing and in person, before the first trip: what is recorded, why, how long it is kept and who has access to it.
  3. Keep no more than necessaryKeep a clip around an incident; the rest is deleted automatically. That is our default setting.
  4. Ask the works council for consentIf you have a works council (OR), it has a right of consent for systems that can monitor staff (article 27 of the Dutch Works Councils Act, WOR).

Frequently asked questions

Am I allowed to fit dashcams in my company vehicles?

Not without conditions. It is allowed for a legitimate purpose such as handling damage claims or safety, provided your drivers have been clearly informed in advance and you don't keep the footage longer than necessary. Constantly watching staff is not a valid purpose.

Does the camera film my drivers all day?

No. Privacy is on by default: no facial recognition, audio off and clips only when an event occurs. Footage is first stored on the SD card in the vehicle; we only retrieve what is needed. A cab camera is a separate choice.

How long is camera footage kept?

In the platform, 30 days by default. Longer retention, 60 or 90 days, is available as an option.

What does a dashcam cost per vehicle?

Video costs €18.95 per vehicle per month, one price however many cameras are fitted. The SIM card, 500 MB of video data per vehicle (pooled into one bundle for your account) and 30 days of footage storage are included; beyond that you pay €0.01 per MB. The camera is a one-off purchase.

Is tracking included?

Yes. Video is tracking plus footage when an incident occurs: the vehicle also appears live on the map, with trips and alerts.

Does the works council have to consent?

As a rule, yes. A camera system in company vehicles can be used to monitor staff, so the works council's right of consent applies (article 27 of the Dutch Works Councils Act, WOR). Present your plan before installation.
